IPEC Study Published in Global Heart Journal
Global Heart Hub’s patient-led research, the IPEC Study (Insights from Patients living with Elevated Cholesterol), has been published in Global Heart Journal, the official scientific journal of the World Heart Federation.
Our transnational qualitative study, conducted across Australia, Brazil, and the United States, explored the lived experiences of individuals diagnosed with high levels of LDL-C. This patient-led research spotlights the urgent need for improved communication, education, and personalised care in cholesterol and cardiovascular disease management. It also highlights the value of patient experience data and patient insights research. Huge thanks to our research partners, steering committee members and especially all those who shared their lived experience through this study.

Global Heart Hub Commentary Publication in The Lancet Regional Health Europe Journal
Global Heart Hub’s commentary, “Addressing cardiovascular health disparities: global perspectives from the patient community” has been published in The Lancet Regional Health Europe Journal. This piece refers to a series of four articles on inequalities and disparities in cardiovascular health, including women, ethnic minorities, the elderly and those with mental health conditions.
In this commentary, Global Heart Hub has taken a truly global approach, highlighting the real-world patient experiences of barriers to early detection, diagnosis, and equitable care in cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially among women and people living with multiple connected conditions. These insights, drawn from our annual Unite Summits and roundtable meetings, along with testimonials of our patient community, bring to life the challenges patients face every day. Notably, our Manifesto for the Early Detection and Diagnosis of CVD, co-developed in collaboration with diverse stakeholders, is referenced in the piece, showcasing key recommended actions for success.

Global Heart Hub’s Manifesto Published in PharmacoEconomics
Global Heart Hub is delighted to share that “Highlights from the Manifesto on the Health Economics of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention” has been published in the PharmacoEconomics journal, a prestigious peer-reviewed medical journal that covers the fields of health economics, pharmacoeconomics and quality-of-life assessment.
The economic case for early intervention in cardiovascular disease prevention is clear. Early cardiovascular interventions have been found to be cost-effective from both healthcare and societal perspectives. Preventive strategies and timely diagnosis can reduce long-term healthcare costs and improve quality of life.
The article is based on our patient-led manifesto, Achieving Early Detection and Diagnosis of Cardiovascular Disease: A Manifesto for Change, which was developed collaboratively by 125 international patient advocates, including 40 cardiovascular patient organisations and multidisciplinary expert opinion leaders.

Global Heart Hub’s Manifesto Published in the Electronic Journal of the IFCC
An article on the highlights of Global Heart Hub’s patient-led manifesto, Achieving early detection and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease: A manifesto for change, looking at the Role of Laboratory Tests and Emerging Technologies, has been published in the Electronic Journal of the IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine). Global Heart Hub’s patient-led manifesto, Achieving early detection and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease: A manifesto for change, outlines a comprehensive approach involving public awareness, targeted detection programs, enhanced clinical processes, digital integration, workforce training, research investment, policy development, and equitable access. Specialists in laboratory medicine and laboratory tests, particularly NP (Natriuretic peptide) testing, and emerging technologies play a critical role in achieving these goals.

Global Heart Hub’s Manifesto Published in ESC’s European Heart Journal
Global Heart Hub is delighted to see its manifesto for early detection and early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease published this week in the European Heart Journal. The manifesto is the first patient-led, global patient perspective on the necessity of early detection and early diagnosis in CVD. It is the output of a meeting of 125 international patient advocates who came together with a multidisciplinary group of expert opinion leaders at the annual GHH Unite Conference in Barcelona last year. The manifesto calls to action are not only grounded in real-world patient experiences and priorities, but also aligned with the latest clinical guidance and evidence, reinforcing its relevance and potential impact on health systems worldwide.

Publication in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing
The Heart Valve Disease Council is happy to share the recently published editorial in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing: Improving the heart valve disease journey of care: a new action plan for better partnerships with patients, clinicians, and policymakers, authored by Prof Britt Borregaard and Prof Sandra Lauck.
The editorial references Global Heart Hub’s report Heart Valve Disease: Working Together to Create a Better Patient Journey and highlights the opportunities that the momentum creates for all stakeholders to achieve the goals of ensuring seamless, inclusive, timely, and high-quality care to treat HVD. It is also an opportunity to improve partnerships with patients and policymakers, and to advocate for changes in health policy, clinical care, and patient engagement to improve outcomes, experiences, and access to heart valve disease care.
The three calls to action are: raising heart valve disease awareness, promoting access to specialized and excellent care and empowering patients to participate in shared decision-making.

Publication in ESC’s European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing – Cardiovascular disease and diabetes care
Global Heart Hub is delighted to share that an editorial on our Cardio-diabetes Think Tank has been published in the ESC European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing – Cardiovascular disease and diabetes care: patient and healthcare professional advocacy priorities from the Global Heart Hub Cardio-Diabetes Think Tank.
In 2022, Global Heart Hub held a Cardio-Diabetes Think Tank to develop consensus on actions that need to be taken to address the growing burden of diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Across the world, diabetes affects almost half a billion people, who have a twofold increased risk of CVD. The patient-led think tank brought together leading representatives of key international CVD and diabetes patient, nursing, primary and secondary care organisations, to produce a consensus report outlining specific, tangible actions needed to improve care for patients with these concomitant diseases. It calls for key players in both communities to work together to implement these actions, putting patients at the centre of decision-making to enhance cardio-diabetes outcomes.
