Global Heart Hub in Numbers
Why we need to ACT NOW
CVDs are the number 1 cause of death globally: more people die annually from CVDs than from any other cause.
Out of the 16 million deaths under the age of 70 due to noncommunicable diseases, 82% are in low and middle income countries and 37% are caused by CVDs.
An estimated 17.5 million people died from CVDs in 2019, representing 32% of all global deaths.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the underlying cause of 85% of heart attack and stroke related deaths. 80% of premature cardiovascular events can be prevented.
GHH Patient Councils are comprised of representatives from Patient Organisation Affiliates with similar interests and aims in particular heart disease areas. Currently, GHH has established Patient Councils in Heart Failure, Heart Valve Disease and Cardiomyopathy.
Working Groups are comprised of representatives from Patient Organisation Affiliates who connect to explore particular challenges or to work in partnership on specific projects. Current Working Groups include a Women & Heart Disease Working Group and a Cardiometabolic Working Group.
Global Heart Hub Academy seeks to build the capacity and capability of the patient voice in CVD by providing a diverse range of training and skill-development opportunities for the patient and carer community.
Central to the work of GHH is the publication of thought leadership commentary, policy briefs, patient and stakeholder dialogue, patient insight reports and patient and stakeholder relevant data and analysis.
