For Mary one highlight of working with Global Heart Hub was attending our Unite Summit 2024 in Dublin, “It was my first time at a GHH event and a wonderful 2 days which brought together patients, affiliates and funders to highlight areas of concern for CVD patients. The speakers were so inspiring, and it made me so proud to be part of a wonderful organisation. I spoke to many patients at the event, and they were so happy to be finally heard! We are a small team but can make a huge difference”.
Sharing with us some fun facts Mary explains that her current favourite page on social media is “Rossie to Aussie” on Instagram @rossie_to_aussie. “The page is about a man called Fergal Guihen from Roscommon in Ireland and who is cycling from Roscommon to Australia raising funds for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Northwest Stop (a local suicide charity here in the west of Ireland). He is currently in China cycling and its lovely to see all the various countries he has visited, and the journey he has undertaken for a greater good. To date he has raised around €45k which is inspiring and always so encouraging to see how kind and generous people really are”.
Outside of work Mary loves to travel. “Anywhere and everywhere”, she says. “We try to visit somewhere new in Ireland every year as well as overseas too. Prior to having children, my husband and I drove across the US and Europe which was an amazing experience. I am instilling a love of travel in my children, and we are planning to take a big trip with them soon”.
Closer to home, Mary has a passion for live music and the theatre, which she tries to make time for, as often as possible.
“We are blessed in Galway to have the Arts Festival in July every year. It’s great to see events we might never get a chance to see again and to have them visit where we call home is extra special”.
Thank you Mary, for being part of Global Heart Hub and for everything you bring to the team!
