Global Heart Hub Champions This Year’s International Clinical Trials Day Call to Action: “Rethinking Clinical Trials: Inclusivity in Practice”
Representation in cardiovascular clinical trials is not just a matter of fairness; it’s a matter of life and death. Globally, CVD is responsible for more deaths than any other condition. Yet women represent less than 30% of participants in CVD trials, and minority ethnic and low-income communities often go unheard and unseen in research. This lack of data has real consequences, resulting in poorer outcomes for patients.

Global Heart Hub is joining the global call to rethink clinical trials through the lens of equity. Through our affiliates and partners, we are advocating for sex-specific data analysis, better research design, and funding models that prioritise inclusive recruitment and culturally competent care. We also support efforts to empower patients to understand, ask about, and join clinical studies that reflect their lived reality.
As we mark International Clinical Trials Day, we look ahead to launching a broader initiative to provide educational resources, patient stories, and practical guidance to help improve access to trials for all. We believe the future of heart health must address systemic barriers that may underrepresent certain groups, making sure trials are accessible and equitable and built on inclusive evidence. This change begins today.
