Global Heart Hub’s Response to the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan Call for Evidence
Global Heart Hub’s Response to the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan Call for Evidence
September 11, 2025
Global Heart Hub’s response to the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan Call for Evidence draws on the lived experience, insights and evidence from our patient community, focusing on three priorities where EU and national action can drive meaningful change:
- Early detection and screening: to identify risk and disease earlier, enabling faster intervention.
- Women’s cardiovascular health: to address persistent gender gaps in research, recognition and care.
- Integration of care for related comorbidities: recognising the complexity of cardiovascular disease alongside related conditions such as diabetes, obesity, kidney disease, liver disease and stroke.
While healthcare remains a national competence, cardiovascular disease is a shared European challenge. A unified, patient-centred EU strategy can reduce inequalities, strengthen health system resilience and accelerate innovation across Member States.
We welcome the European Commission’s leadership in developing a comprehensive EU Cardiovascular Health Plan and urge a bold, inclusive approach that embeds the patient voice from strategy through to implementation.
The patient voice should be integrated at every stage – from design and decision-making to delivery and evaluation. Our response is rooted in that commitment and includes case studies highlighting how GHH, and our European Affiliate community who have helped shape it, are making a real difference to the lives of CVD patients & carers.
Together, we can ensure the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan reflects the real-world needs, realities and aspirations of the millions of people it is designed to serve. Read our response here
